The Public Internet
When we think of cloud, we think of public internet
Its invention was an amazing feat of
network engineering
• Ubiquity: reach anywhere from anywhere
• Resiliency: rerouting and retransmission
Public internet not designed for all cloud use:
• Optimized for network operator, not the customer
• Security: shared network inherently not secure
• Throughput: large volumes of data require high bandwidth not typically on corporate IP service
• Speed & consistency: transmission across multiple networks, varying loads on shared capacity
• Cost: use of IP service beyond commit levels may drive unplanned & unnecessary costs

Integrated public cloud-based
production operations with
Big Data and BI Analytics
on private infrastructure
Used interconnection for Data
Migration, application performance
and communication security 300
miles from CSP server farm in
separate country
Migrated key business &
design/engineering applications to
the public cloud and transformed
global network
Enabled BC/DR Strategy, while
optimizing performance of key
applications for finance,
collaboration and 3D modeling
via VDI hosts

Leading IT Analysts Recognize Role of Cloud Interconnection
• Cloud networking challenges rank among
the top inhibitors to using public cloud
services, with 37% of enterprises ranking in
top 3 challenges
• Vertical-specific, mission-critical applications
running in the cloud provider's data centers
interact and interoperate with other
applications that reside in the customer's data
centers or a different cloud provider’s data
center

• By YE20, more than 30% of organizations
will connect to cloud providers using
alternatives to the public internet, which
is a major increase from 5% in 3Q17.

Introducing Oracle GoldenGate
The Solution for Enterprise-Wide Real-Time Data Needs
© 2018 Equinix Inc. Equinix.com 18
Design for Distributed Architecture using
Oracle GoldenGate
• Reducing network latency requires a local database in the
geographic region of the user
• Plan is to add two databases in APAC and EMEA
• GoldenGate seamlessly replicates data from three distributed
databases in AMER, EMEA and APAC and keeps them in sync
bidirectionally
• Deployments can be done when one region is offline without
affecting the other region (changes are synced)
© 2018 Equinix Inc. Equinix.com 19
Key take-aways
• Multiple geographic regions can have local databases to reduce
network latency and get data synced from other regions by using
GoldenGate in real time
• Deployment time can be reduced to near zero by having HA
database in read/write mode and pointing application server to it
while the primary database is being patched
• Deployments can be done in one region’s local database while it is
offline without affecting the other regions, and then later syncing
the changes
