Tyler Handlan Letter of Recommendation
January 2016
To whom it my concern:
I taught newswriting to Tyler Handlan the fall semester of 2015 at the Walter Cronkite
School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. He has the
intellect and curiosity that characterize fine writers.
My class helps students not only to learn news judgment and the mechanics of
newswriting, but also how to think on their feet and write quickly. I was impressed at the
beginning of class that Ty’s stories got right to the point and reported all the facts
correctly. At Cronkite, we give Fs for articles that contain factual errors; Tyler was one
of the few students who didn’t receive even one during the semester.
By mid-semester, his writing speed improved further, and he became one of my A
students.
Ty’s social and presentations skills, so evident to me in the classroom, will serve him
well in journalism or in communication of any kind.
I believe that he would benefit from experience as an intern or employee with your
organization, and I’m sure you will be glad you selected him.
Please contact me if I can provide additional information.
Sincerely,
Maureen West
