As Jesus continues his journey toward Jerusalem, he encounters parents who bring their children to him for a blessing. This was a common practice in Jewish culture, but it illustrates the role of every parent who follows Christ that they are to bring their children to Jesus. Unlike the disciples, we need to see the kingdom clearly and remember that children are always welcome there. Jesus’ words reveal this spiritual truth, let the little children come to and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. Once again Jesus uses children to illustrate the simple faith needed to become one of his followers but also how children are citizens of the kingdom.
