Math Potentials is an education enrichment organization in Vancouver, founded in 2000, that focuses on helping children enjoy and succeed in mathematics and sciences through conceptual learning. The organization offers programs like Math Circles and Science Circles to address the gaps in traditional education by integrating math with science and fostering curiosity through hands-on experiments. Over the years, Math Potentials has expanded from 30 to 700 students across multiple campuses in Metro Vancouver.

2. Math Potentials is an education enrichment
organization that teaches children to enjoy and
experience success in doing mathematics and
sciences.
Dr. Natasa Sirotic and Dr. Klaus Hoechsmann
founded Math Potentials in 2000, with the support
of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical
Sciences. It was their extraordinary passion for
math education, and desire to open students’ eyes
to how meaningful and fulfilling mathematics can
be, that made their first year, with just 30 students,
such a success.

3. Math Potentials offers enriched math and
science education in Vancouver and teaches
children to enjoy and experience success in
the learning of these subjects.
Some kids have difficulties with math and
science in school when they are taught to
memorize rather than learn for
understanding. We eliminate these
difficulties by teaching conceptually, for
understanding. Our teachers, who have
expertise in both subject-matter and
teaching.

4. Math Circles
The Math Circles Program was initiated by
teachers and mathematicians through the
support of the Pacific Institute of
Mathematics Sciences (PIMS) at UBC. They
saw that students were entering university
inadequately prepared for the big jump
between high school and university math, and
set out to change this.
Math Circles started in UBC in the 2000/2001
school year with only two classes in one
campus. It has since grown to six campuses
in Metro Vancouver, serving 700 students.

5. Science Circles
Science Circles is an enrichment program
where students develop their curiosity about
the world and the scientific way of thought
needed to understand the natural phenomena
of the physical world. The approach is to
seamlessly integrate math and science, and
learn to use mathematics as a tool for doing
science.
Students will engage with fun scientific
experiments and projects using data
collection sensors, computer simulations,
video cameras, and smartphone applications.
