12. Sylhet Sadar Upazila
Divisional center of Sylhet division in Bangladesh
and is considered as the center for the
northeastern part of the country.
The area was selected for the study of maternal health system
considering its locational, social, cultural, and economic
characteristics.
Sylhet is known for its unique cultural heritage and religious
significance, which could affect maternal health.
The region is also a producer of tea, oil, and gas and has
emerging social classes, which could impact overall maternal
health.
Sylhet is colloquially known as the "London" of Bangladesh due
to its historic diaspora to the United Kingdom, raising questions
about any potential effects on maternal health.
13. Patriarchal and conservative dominance poses a threat to
maternal health in both regions, and this cultural characteristic
needs to be examined.
The dominance of agriculture in these regions provides insights
into the economic impact on maternal health.
The administrative bodies in both Bishwanath and Golapganj
Upazila are distinct from Sylhet Sadar and play a role in
determining maternal health status.
As a part of a so-called backward society, societal drawbacks
affecting maternal health status need to be examined,
especially as the sprawling of Sylhet city continues.
• Locational characteristics and Unique Urban-rural
Intersection
• Maternal health Care System - Certain Restrictions and
Unavailability of Facilities.
