Mars is the fourth planet from the sun and about 290 million kilometers away. It is known as the Red Planet. Mount Olympus is the tallest volcano on Mars located in the Tharsis Plane, standing at 23 kilometers tall and being the largest known volcano in the solar system. In January 2004, the Spirit robot landed on Mars with its twin Opportunity and explored the surface, but became stuck in sandy soil for 10 months with its wheels trapped.
