1. Marquis Donte Burleson
Marquis Burleson; a Son, Big Brother, friend of the community, College Athlete, and
hardworking, educated man. These are all things I have striven to be within my life time. Putting
my full dedication into everything I do gives me the supreme confidence of knowing I can take
on any task and be successful; while staying humble and knowing the definition of hard work.
Through my employment history I have been able to acquire essential customer service skills,
and a background with a fast paced work environment. While attending college I worked 40
hours a week working two different jobs. I worked the city of Evans as a site supervisor,
supervising practice and reserved parties or events, while also working in the University venter
in The University of Northern Colorado Bookstore and Fan shop. My most recent employer is
the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region and I am working Membership Services providing
members with all of the information they need and handling their member accounts. All of these
jobs gave me hands on experience dealing with customer service and some technical and
organizational skills as well.
My Career goal is to work for a major university in the Athletic department. I would like to work
as a Director of Basketball Operations, eventually leading me to become and Athletic Director. I
believe I have key traits for both of these positions. I have an extensive knowledge of sports,
having played my whole life, and being a college basketball player I know the ins and outs of the
business. Working in customer service has given me the overall communication and
organizational skills needed to run an athletic department.
My educational history has taken me around the country to obtain my degree. I received my
Associates of Science degree from McCook Community College, in McCook Nebraska. I have
also received my Bachelors of Arts degree in communications studies, and a Minor in Journalism
and mass media studies, from the University of Northern Colorado located in Greeley Colorado.
I was a member of the Varsity Basketball Team at McCook Community College, And Played a
Year at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina Kansas.
I was most recently given a raise from the YMCA for graduating with my Bachelor’s degree. I
have also recently become certified in CPR, Oxygen, and First Aid from the American Red
Cross Association.
My strong educational background, leadership qualities, and work experience has given me all of
the tools I need to be successful in the workplace. Though I am seeking for my ultimate career
goal as a athletic director I possess the skills to do any job effectively.
