March 2 - 6, 2015. Monday - Friday, 10 am - 5:15 pm. Up to 30 CE hours
At the San Francisco Psychotherapy Reasearch Group, Clinic and Training Center
Conference participants attend a 2-hour seminar each morning, Monday-Friday (10
hours). They are assigned to one of two groups on the basis of their level of knowledge
(new vs. returning participants) about Control-Mastery theory and practice. Each
participant has the opportunity to attend two 2-hour courses each afternoon. The
afternoon sessions offer participants the opportunity to pursue their individual interests.
Theoretical courses take up questions about how therapy works, about techniques,
about the concept unique to Control Mastery theory stating that patients work
according to a conscious or unconscious plan, the nature of the therapeutic process,
plan formulations, assessment of therapeutic change, and comparison of Control -
Mastery Theory to other past and contemporary theories.
Clinical applications will be studied in small classes concerning the treatment of
children, couples; of difficult adult cases, and other select topics. Participants in these
courses are sometimes encouraged to present their own cases. Participants may also
elect to have one individual consultation with an experienced Control Mastery teacher
for an opportunity to see how this theory may be applied to a case of their own.
This year, classes from which to choose will include: Using measure-based
feedback to enhance treatment; Interruptions in the authority of the Self; DBT
informed CMT; Using CMT with survivors of childhood physical and sexual
abuse; Safety within the treatment of complex PTSD & other anxiety disorders; Erotic
countertransference; and more. Our basic core classes on pathogenic beliefs, plan
formulation, and testing will be offered as well.

Saturday, February 28, 2015, 9 am - 4:15 pm. 6 hours CE $50, JCCSF
This day-long course will present an overview of Control Mastery therapy -- how

empirically tested by the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group. Case examples will be
illustrated with audio-taped clinical material of patients with emotion regulation and impulse
control problems in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. In the afternoon, audience participants will
have opportunities to present cases and watch clinical enactments to illustrate the theory and
