The Base Hospital in Mallavi, Sri Lanka serves 45,000-50,000 people but lacks intensive care unit (ICU) facilities. As a result, emergency patients must be transferred 63 km to Mullaitivu General Hospital. Given the poverty and hardship faced by the local population, establishing an ICU at Mallavi Hospital would reduce transfers and hardship. The project seeks $52,000AUD/$46,000USD to refurbish space and purchase essential equipment like ventilators, monitors, and beds to create a functional ICU and improve access to emergency care for the community.

The 7.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Nepal on Saturday, April 25 caused enormous devastation throughout the country. International Medical Corps was among the first international NGOs on the ground operating following the earthquake providing lifesaving medical treatment and supplies. The response has now transitioned to focus on recovery and International Medical Corps is working to provide orthopedic and rehabilitative care to injured people, is working with local partners to provide psychosocial support, is improving health care and gender-based violence services for women and girls and is providing nutrition projects and water, sanitation and hygiene interventions.

Background:
The Ebola Transmission Prevention & Survivor Services (ETP&SS) program included four components; country programs in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, and a regional program designed to share best practices and lessons learned.
ETP&SS assisted these governments to prevent further Ebola transmission, reduce stigma and other barriers to care for survivors when accessing health services, support the strengthening of needed specialty services, and build more resilient and self-sustaining health systems.
The regional program sought to ensure the sharing of lessons learned and best practices across the three countries and the region through meetings, exchanges and conferences with partners such as NIH, WHO, and the West African Consortium.
Funded by the Global Health Bureau through the Advancing Partners & Communities Project, John Snow Research & Training Institute implemented the program from July 2016 through July/August 2018.

Mukuru cbhc proposal june 2012[1]
Mukuru Promotion Centre is requesting $1.5 million annually from 2012-2015 to enhance access to affordable community healthcare in Mukuru, Kenya. The project aims to increase healthcare clients from 15,000 to 18,000 annually by providing services through nurses and community health workers. It also intends to improve sanitation by installing water tanks to benefit 1,200 households. Regular health checks of 4,500 school children and training of caregivers and health workers on healthcare topics are also objectives. Sri Lanka Medical Projects - Sunday, 1 February 2015 Refurbishment of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Mallavi Base Hospital The Base Hospital Mallavi is in Mullaitivu district which was very adversely affected by the civial war which ended in 2009. This hospital servers a population of 45,000 to 50,000. The hospital is 63 km away from Mullaitivu General Hospital. For all the medical and surgical emergencies, the patients are now being referred to Mullaitivu General Hospital from Mallavi hospital due to lack of facilities for an ICU. Moreover, the people living in these areas are subjected to several displacements and are below poverty line. As such they are reluctant to go to Mullaitivu General Hospital. Hence establishing an ICU at Mallavi hospital will reduce the number of patients being transferred to Mullaitivu General Hospital and lessens the hardships of the people. According to Communities Without Boundaries – “Mallavi, in the Northern Vanni region of Sri Lanka, as a location that requires immediate post- conflict development work. The village currently lacks basic physical infrastructure, including housing, clean water, sanitation systems, health clinic, community center etc. It also lacks basic social infrastructure, including medical facilities, transportation, and education and employment opportunities.”1 1 http://www.cwbi.org/i/542-mallavi-sri-lanka
