Mali faced development challenges including a declining Ghana, rapid population growth, low agricultural production, and high poverty. It is located in Africa surrounded by several cities and borders the Senegal River. While agriculture is the most productive sector, Mali has a very low GDP per capita making it one of the poorest countries in the world.
