SEHS Knitting Club presents Making A Blanket With Left-Handed Crochet
Overview of Terms(Don’t worry about memorizing them) Chain = ch One Chain = ch 1 Three Chains = ch 3 Double Crochet = dc Cluster = Three Double Crochet = 3 dc Slip Stitch = slst
Start with the Slip Knot as always
Make a Chain of 13 Remember that the loop on the hook is not a chain  1  2  3  4  5   6   7  8  9 10 11 12 13
Make a Double Crochet into the 4th Chain Hint: The 3 chains that you skip will act as your first double crochet 4 5 3 2 1
Make another Double Crochet into the SAME Chain
You now have a start of 3 Chains, and 2 Double Crochets in the SAME space Ch 3 dc dc
Make 2 Chains and begin 3 Double Crochets into the SAME space Hint: Sets of 3 Double Crochets will be used throughout the entire blanket.  They are called a Cluster of 3 = 3 dc Ch 2
Your blanket should now look like this 3 dc Ch 2
Make another 2 chains and another Cluster of 3 dc into the SAME space Ch 2
This is the 1st end of your blanket! 3 dc Ch 2 Make sure you still have 9 chains left 1  2  3   4   5   6  7  8  9 3 dc Ch 3 Ch 2 + 2 dc
Chain 1, you will begin a Cluster in the 3rd Chain from your current space Ch 1 1   2   3    4 3 dc here
You blanket should look like this 3 dc 3 4 5  6 7  8  9 Skip 2 ch
Repeat - Chain 1, Cluster into the 3rd Chain from your current space Ch 1 3 dc 6 7  8  9 Skip 2 ch
Repeat - Chain 1, Cluster into the last Chain Ch 1 3 dc 9 Skip  2 ch
Start this end by making 2 Chains then Cluster into the SAME space 3 dc here Ch 2
Your blanket should look like this 3 dc Ch 2 3 dc
Repeat – Chain 2, then Cluster into the SAME space Hint: in case the tail is in your way, you can shorten it 3 dc here Ch 2
Your blanket should look like this Ch 2 3 dc
For Sides, always Chain 1 then Cluster into next available space 3 dc here Ch 1
Your blanket should look like this
Continue the Side – Chain 1 then Cluster into next available space 3 dc here Ch 1
To move to the next row, Slip Stitch into the top Chain of the original ch 3 slst here
Slip Stitch connects the blanket and allows you to add new rows
When beginning new rows, always start with 3 Chains to replace 1st dc Ch 3
Then make 2 Double Crochets into the Slip Stitch space for your 1st Cluster 2 dc Ch 3
To finish the Side, Chain 1 then Cluster into next available space 3 dc here Ch 1
Your blanket should look like this
Now for Corners, always Chain 3 then Cluster into the SAME space 3 dc here Ch 3
Your blanket should look like this
So Remember For Sides Chain 1 Cluster into NEXT available space For Corners Chain 3 Cluster into the SAME space
So for this Side, Chain 1 and Cluster into the NEXT space 3 dc here Ch 1
And for this Corner, Chain 3 and Cluster into the SAME space 3 dc here Ch 3
Continue this process to make your blanket as large as you want
Remember, to move on to new rows, Slip Stitch into the top Chain of the ch 3, and make a new ch 3 with 2 dc 2 dc here Ch 3 slst
In case you run out of yarn or want to change colors, make sure you have enough yarn to reach the Slip Stitch
Carefully remove the hook and knot the new yarn through that loop
Then place the hook back into the same loop and ch 3 with the new yarn  Disregard   old yarn Use new yarn
To finish a blanket, reach the Slip Stitch, but make a Chain instead and pull the end of the yarn through the ch Ch 1
Use a bobby-pin or large needle to hold the end of the yarn
Weave the yarn through the top loop of the 1st Double Crochet
Then knot the end until it feels secure Small knot Cut tail off
Now enjoy your blanket!Or donate it to the Cancer Patients of St. Pete’s All Children’s Hospital
