Background of the Stroma Group
Stroma was founded in 2002 in response to changes in the building
regulations; these changes meant the introduction of air tightness
testing for all large new-build commercial properties. Regulations have
been strengthened since the initial introduction of this policy, and
Stroma have likewise developed their range of services to include
acoustic testing, energy assessment, and design consultancy.
Compliance testing services are still delivered via the original Stroma
trading business, Stroma Technology Limited.
In 2007, Stroma were granted a licence by the Department of
Communities and Local Government (“DCLG”) to operate a
certification scheme for energy assessors in the UK. Despite
competing with some established brands in the UK such as RICS and
the BRE, Stroma Certification established itself as the market leader in
the sector, and have since been granted additional licences to operate
several Competent Person Schemes (“CPS”) for installers.
In 2014, the Group launched Stroma Software as a part of the
Certification business. This division offers bespoke software solutions
for a range of clients within the Electronic Data Capture market. An in-
house software development team is employed across Desktop, iOS
and Android.
In 2015 there was further expansion with the acquisition of Greendoor
Building Control and Specialist Services. Two further acquisitions
within the Building Control division were completed in March 2016:
Approved Design and BBS.

Stroma Certification
We provide: Government-regulated certification schemes,
software, and training. Our clients include: energy assessors,
installers of energy efficiency measures, energy suppliers, and
property managers.
Stroma Tech
We provide: testing, assessment, and consultancy services.
Our clients include: main contractors, housebuilders,
architects, property divisions of public sector bodies (e.g. local
authorities, universities, NHS trusts), and commercial building
managers.
Stroma Software
We provide: software packages – with a focus on flexible,
mobile solutions. Our clients include: major utility
companies, service delivery companies and installer
networks; we are also currently exploring new markets for this
rapidly expanding division.
Approved Design, BBS and Greendoor
We provide: approved Building Control inspection
services. Our clients include: retailers, major
construction and contracting companies, architects,
project managers and homeowners.
