Mahavir Jayanti is an important religious holiday in Jainism that celebrates the birth of Mahavira, the last Tirthankara. According to Jain beliefs, Mahavira was born in 599 BCE to King Siddhartha and Queen Trishala. During her pregnancy, Trishala had sixteen auspicious dreams that were interpreted as meaning her child would become an emperor or Tirthankar. When Mahavira was born at four in the morning, it was considered very auspicious.
