An old, mean woman living alone was skeptical of a starving tramp who came to her door asking for food and water. He claimed to have a magic leaf that could make soup. She reluctantly allowed him into her kitchen and provided a pot of water and some spices. When the soup was ready and they sat down to eat, the tramp revealed the "magic" leaf was just a common bay leaf. The soup was delicious and the tramp had tricked the woman into showing kindness to a stranger through harmless deception.

there?
One day someone knocked to an old
woman’s house. It was a tram and he was
was starving.

The old woman
was very, very
mean and she
was nervous
too.

want?
I need some water
and I’ll make soup
with that magic leaf.

6. Ok. Come

the kitchen.

soucepan with
some water,
please? Yes, sure.
And she
fetched a
big
soucepan
of water
and put it
on the
cooker.

8. Have you got
any salt and
pepper?
Yes, sure.
She ran to
the
cupboard
and she
came with
some
spices.

9. Hmmm…
It smells
good.
Here they
are.
At first she ran to the larder and next to the garden and
fetched everything what he wanted.
Mmm… that’s better now.
It really needs some
vegetables and meat.

10. Is it ready
now?
She led him to the dining room and laid the table.
Right, we can’t see the leaf
now, so the soup is ready.
Bread and rolls are very
good with the leaf soup.
Ok. I’ll bring
some bread
and butter.

11. It is delicious. And
you have made it
with just that magic
leaf.
Now we can
eat
this soup.
And they started
to eat the ‘magic’
soup.
It was
just a
bay
leaf.
The tramp smiled and cut another slice of bread.
