This document discusses the design of a sensory garden meant to transition visitors from noisy outdoor sounds to inner stillness. It analyzes how different materials influence the speed of movement and types of resulting sounds. The garden contains several designed "fields" meant to create different sound experiences through various materials. These include a wind field with a wind organ, a water field with dripping basins of varying sizes, a silence field at the core insulated from outside noise, and a filter field using soundproof materials to transition visitors from outside sounds of traffic and trains. The purpose is to guide visitors on a path from external noise through various soothing natural sounds to an experience of inner stillness and calm.

COMPOSITION AND SPEED
The materials influence the speed of the movement:
-ASPHALT/fast cars
-TILED FLOOR/ slower cars, bikes, people on foot
-GRASS/ peolple
-WATER/ nature
-UNCULTIVATED LAND/ nature
Identity place: stillness (preserving)

Outside the speed produces noise.
Inside, going slowly, you can produce sound.
=>
Dissonance:
Interaction between two frequencies producing a disturbing vibration as well as a feeling
of unhomogeneity and discordance feeling.
in the Project...2 frequencies 1. noise (from outside)
2. sounds (inside)
Both (1 and 2) made by humans
Core of project: wind and NATURAL silence
HEARING PURIFICATION
Circular path: FROM NOISE TO “SILENCE”, THROUGH THE SOUND.
from out of the place
walking in the garden
“closed” core of the site

CONCEPT
SOUND - ANALYSIS
SPEED - ANALYSIS
From the street: disturbing sound (noise) Water front: pleasant sound
From railway: no intense noise (sound)
Inside the place there aren’t
movements so, the only sounds are
natural (due to wind among leaves
and chirping of birds).
But from outside
you can hear disturbance,
from the highway, and other sound
from railway.
A sound absorbent filter is necessary
in the north border.

production of sound
sound and material: dull noise of footsteps on the wooden ramp,
low “voice” of the wind mill.
experience: surprise due to the change of the flooring;
the wind mill calls your attention to the possibility
of choosing another path.
sound and material:
pattering on the grass,
wind blowing through the treetops
no noise from outside (walls of soundproof material).
experience:
natural “silence”, in a peaceful casket, your mind is devoid of troubles.
sound:
low sound from organ field.
experience:
view toward “infinite”
elements , infinity sense.
sound and materials:
intermittent dripping made by the water
that falls down in the metal basin.
The lines of basin have diversal size, so
they create a particular and
unhomogeneus rhythm.
Dull pattering on the metal grid.
Slow flowing of the water in the canal.
experience:
calm and relax.
sound and material:
(interrupted) rhytmic traffic sound,
different walls of the corridor:
-opaque material (brick)
-soundproof and
trasparent material.
experience: confusion created by
disturbing sound and view of cars.
sound:
Low sound from the reeds.
experience:
Growing curiosity, the instrument catches
your attention and it induces you to discover
new layer.
