Egorova attended teacher's college in Tomsk and moved to Leningrad in 1988. She became the world champion in 1991 and Olympic champion in 1992. Egorova finished Russian state pedagogical university in 1994 and has since participated in political activities, running for the Communist Party and becoming involved in protests while also achieving sporting success as a six-time Olympic champion and world champion in her field.
