The Iberian lynx was once found across the Iberian Peninsula but is now restricted to small areas in Andalusia, Spain, where breeding has been confirmed in two locations. It prefers open grasslands and hunts small mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians at twilight, with the European rabbit making up its main prey. The Iberian lynx and its habitat are fully protected, but it remains critically endangered due to loss of habitat from infrastructure, urban development, and tree monocultivation, as well as threats from poisoning, vehicle collisions, feral dogs, poaching, and disease reducing rabbit populations.
