The study examined whether low-level visual saliency could predict change detection in natural scenes. Researchers showed participants images with changes to objects that were either consistent or inconsistent with the scene schema. They found that reaction times and accuracy for detecting changes were better when the changed object was inconsistent with the scene schema. This suggests that top-down semantic information influences change detection more than low-level visual saliency alone.
