This study examined the differences in expectations between users of free versus paid online dating sites. The researchers hypothesized that those using free sites would prefer more casual relationships. They surveyed over 200 adults about their dating site usage, ideal partner characteristics, and risk behaviors. The results supported their hypothesis, finding those using free sites expected to date many people casually, while those using paid sites sought long-term relationships. Additionally, free site users reported more risky behaviors like unprotected sex. The researchers concluded people not seeking long-term relationships were more likely to use free dating sites.
