1. Love can go sour too
I am such a chat freak, you know. One day I was logged into my instant
messenger suddenly I got a strange ping from someone who wasn’t in my contact
list at all. Well, that’s not an issue. It is easy to get hold of ids from chat rooms.
But the message was pretty bizarre as it read; Hi, babes. Don’t you think a little
more caution is needed?
I could not make heads or tails of this stupid and strange message and typed back
an angry retort, saying: Who are you and what are you talking about? There was
a smiley icon sent as if the other chatter had been greatly amused and then he or
she, whoever it was, typed: Ask no questions and you won’t get no lies.
The id was creepychief2468 which I found somewhat weird and I was going to ask
him a complete asl when a chilling message appeared on the screen. “ Be careful,
be very careful. You are in danger.” Read the message.
Suddenly the sunny day seemed to darken above. My heart started thudding in
my chest. I typed: What do you mean? Who are you?
The last message read: Be careful, if you wish to live and then the user logged off.
I was frightened now but tried to shake off the uneasy feeling by thinking that
maybe it was someone playing a practical joke. I worked as a sales assistant
manager in a boutique and the job left me dead tired every night.
After returning home the following day, I made myself some dinner and switched
on the television to watch my favorite soap opera. Suddenly there came the
sound of the telephone ringing. When I picked it up, all I could hear was heavy
and raspy breathing on the other end.
“ Hello,” I shouted several times into the phone, exasperated at missing my
favorite serial. “ If anyone is there, please speak up!” Actually I had forgotten
about my strange chat session with the mysterious stranger but it came back to
life with a horrible cracking laughter which seemed to reverberate in my ears.
“ I can see you, baby.” Said the horrible voice, amidst the ominous mirth.” I am
watching you. I am here allright, don’t worry.”

2. WHO ARE YOU? I screamed, petrified. “ WHO ARE YOU?” There came the sound
of a loud guffaw and then the line went dead. Still shaking, I replaced the receiver
and came back to the living room. The television was on in full blast. I was shaking
from head to foot. My life had become a living nightmare in a couple of days.
Who was this mysterious stalker? What did he want from me? Why was this
happening to me? I could not sleep all night and sat trembling on my bed. What
could I do now? Suddenly the television went off and the room was plunged into
darkness. I started groping for a torch and instead my fingers closed over
something cold and clammy. Horrified, I screamed at the top of lungs.
Immediately the lights came back on. I breathed deeply and took a long swig of
water. Deciding that I was just stressed out from overwork, I thought of staying
home the following day and rest.
The following day, I was at the local grocery store picking up a few things.
Suddenly someone tapped me on the back. Startled, I whirled around and
dropped a can of milk which I had been holding. The floor was flooded with
white, creamy milk and became slippery but no one was there behind me. People
were staring at me like I had sprouted horns or grown an extra head. A little girl
giggled and asked her mom who was staring at me in amazement, Mommy, why
is this lady talking to herself and dropping milk?
A grumpy looking sales clerk came up and scowled at me. That will have to be
paid for, mam. He said and literally dragged me to the cash counter.
The next day I took off work and decided to hit the sack. I needed a good, long
rest. Suddenly my cell phone started ringing. Annoyed I picked it up. Before I
could say hello the same telephonic voice whispered Hi gorgeous, how are you
doing? I had had enough. My nerves were frayed by now and I was on the verge
of a nervous breakdown.
Mustering all my strength and courage, I did the unthinkable. I literally hollered
into the phone

3. Be a man and show yourself, coward, instead of threatening a woman behind the
scene. Suddenly the phone went dead and the lights went off. Petrified, I tried to
get up from the sofa, though my legs were shaking. Knock, knock! Someone was
tapping on the door. I tried to get up and run up the stairs to the bedroom. But it
was pitch dark and I banged into something and went sprawling on the floor.
Before I could get up , the door swung open and the lights came on. To my utter
shock it was Roger, my ex boy friend who was at the door and in his hand was a
big butcher knife.
Roger! I exclaimed, getting up. What is going on?
The boy I had once cared for had an evil smile his face. He moved towards me,
brandishing his knife.
You made my life hell when you broke up with me, Dolly. It was then on when I
planned to make your life a living hell just as you made mine. I was the mysterious
chatter and caller who gave you such a nervous breakdown. I disconnected your
electricity fuse and broke into your house at night. It was me at the sales shop
who just tapped you at the back and vanished. The rest you did yourself, The
previous episodes had scared you so much that you started mumbling to yourself
and dropped the milk. Let me also give you the good news, that the sales
department has complained to your boutique and they have sacked you. You are
ruined, Dolly, your reputation and job are both gone. He finished with a smirk.
I could not believe my ears. It was Roger the person I had trusted with my life! I
cant believe this, how could you do this to me? I screamed hysterically. You said
you loved me. You don’t treat a friend like this. Tears were rolling down my
cheeks now as I thought of the fact that I was jobless and a social farce, for no
fault of mine.
You deserve every bit of it, you scheming woman. You played with my feelings.
Roger hissed. I could not believe that those kind brown eyes could grow so
inhumanly cold. His former smiling face was twisted with rage. Looking at him, I

4. knew the boy I had cared for no longer existed. He had been replaced with a
revenge obsessed monster.
And now is the best part. He moved closer and my eyes suddenly saw the knife
again. You know it all, Dolly. I cant let you live. See how true I am to you. I even
confessed all my sins. Now goodbye!
He raised his knife aiming at my heart. Suddenly the knife fell out of his hands
and he collapse on the floor. From my position on the floor where I had been
cowering, I looked up to find the comforting face of Mary, my neighbor and
friend. She had knocked him out with a superb karate punch.
I saw your door open and heard his voice as I was coming in. she said. R u okay.
Trembling, I got up from the floor and nodded a yes. Mary helped me to the sofa
and dialed 911.
Two months later everything was fine. Roger had been taken into custody and
was into a mental rehab. I was working in a call center and had changed my
residence. One night I was returning from duty ,when suddenly my mobile phone
rang. Figuring it to be one of my colleagues for some work details, I picked it up as
I unlocked the door.
Hi Dolly, said a familiar voice. Wanna meet tonight? I froze. It was Roger.
