In 2013: - Asia experienced the highest overall losses from natural catastrophes at $60 billion, followed by Europe at $37.5 billion and North America at $22.5 billion. - North America experienced the highest insured losses at $17 billion, accounting for 56% of total insured losses worldwide. Asia experienced $9 billion in insured losses. - Overall losses in 2013 of $125 billion were similar to the 1980-2012 average of $115 billion per year. However, insured losses were higher in 2013 at $31 billion compared to the 1980-2012 average of $30 billion.
