Project Overview:
• To pr ovide a social incent ive f or which wor k is
mot ivat ed in a t eam set t ing and veer ed away f r om
t he cont ext and ment alit y of individualist ic wor k
usually char act er ized by “maximizing br eak t imes
and minimizing f loor / wor k t ime.”
• To est ablish a visual met r ic f or shipper s in t he
t hr ee shif t s t hat t hey can ident if y wit h as t heir
t eam’s pr oduct ivit y/ achievement scor e at t he end
of ever y shipping shif t .
• To incent ivize loading ext r as f r om t he f r eezer
war ehouse inst ead of j ust shipping of f t he lines.
• Pr oj ect scope does not r elat e t o ot her met r ics
int ended t o addr ess ot her f loor measur es such as
accur acy, or f if o or GMP et c. The measur e is
benchmar ked on a common st andar d and
under st anding of a t hr ough-put r at io and
at t endant const r aint s/ limit at ions af f ect ing t he
t hr ee shif t s.
Basic Concept
Relat ed issues t hat can be consider ed in scope:
o Loading Pr oduct ivit y as a concept descr ibes a daily shif t met r ic t hat measur es one
against an agr eeable benchmar k r at io wher e simply, x is t he number of cases loaded
and y is t he number of cases pr oduced. I n an ideal wor ld if t he shif t loads 100
cases t hat came of f t he line, t hen 100 cases ar e loaded f or shipping which is a
t hr ough-put r at io of 1 or 100%.
» I f X= Y or 100%
o I t f ollows t hen t hat if 120 cases ar e loaded wit h only 100 being pr oduced dur ing t he
shif t , you have a r at io of 2/ 1 or 200%.
o Your pr oduct ion denominat or can be exceeded or met below par . So if only 50 is
loaded against a 100 cs pr oduct ion volume, your LP is only 50%.
o Using t his f r amewor k pr oduct ion volume will only r ef lect pr oduced goods, and not
include:
• Pr oduct s put on hold
• Pr oduct s not meant t o be shipped
Basic Concept s (cont ’d)
• Shipping war ehouse st ock t hat does not f orm par t of pr oduct ion in cur r ent
shif t can only r aise t he r at io or LP
• I f , consider ing t hat t he line pr oduces 100 cases, and t her e is
enough t r ailer s t o cont ain 100 cases, shipper s loads 25 cases mor e
f r om t he war ehouse, t he LP Scor e will be:
» 125/ 100 or 125%
• Fr om t his scor ing syst em an individual cont r ibut ion scor e may be ext ended:
» Shipper A ships 25 of t he 125, t hen he has a 25/ 125 or
20% cont r ibut ion scor e.
» Shipper B ships 75 of t he 125, t hen he has a 75/ 125 or
61% cont r ibut ion scor e
» Shipper C ships 25 of t he 125, t hen he also has 25/ 125 or
a 20% cont r ibut ion
I n measur ing Loading Pr oduct ivit y we t r y t o keep t hr ough- put as consist ent as
possible by:
Concerns:
• Limit at ions
– How do put -aways count
– What if t her e wer e no
t r ailer s available?
– What if t her e wer e
downt ime/ pr oblems in t he
line?
– What about t r ailer t ur nover
issues?
Recourses:
• Put -aways will be not be count ed as
loads Pr oduct ion volume will only
count accor ding t o cont ainer
capacit y. I f t her e is 29 skids
pr oduced and t her e was only 1 empt y
r eef er available 24 will be mat ched
up as t he pr evailing pr oduct ion
volume at t hat t ime. So 100 per cent
will be mar ked. Conver sely if t her e
wer e 3 r eef er s available , 72 skids
wer e pr oduced but only 48 loaded
t hen LP is only 66%.
• Pr ovision f or manual assist ance
pr esumes t hat line is r est or ed t o
normal , again a management issue
and is out of scope of t his measur e.
• Management must ensur e pr oduct ive
yar d oper at ions and is not t r eat ed t o
be wit hin scope

Editor's Notes

  • #2 This template can be used as a starter file to give updates for project milestones. Sections Right-click on a slide to add sections. Sections can help to organize your slides or facilitate collaboration between multiple authors. Notes Use the Notes section for delivery notes or to provide additional details for the audience. View these notes in Presentation View during your presentation. Keep in mind the font size (important for accessibility, visibility, videotaping, and online production) Coordinated colors Pay particular attention to the graphs, charts, and text boxes. Consider that attendees will print in black and white or grayscale. Run a test print to make sure your colors work when printed in pure black and white and grayscale. Graphics, tables, and graphs Keep it simple: If possible, use consistent, non-distracting styles and colors. Label all graphs and tables.
  • #3 What is the project about? Define the goal of this project Is it similar to projects in the past or is it a new effort? Define the scope of this project Is it an independent project or is it related to other projects? * Note that this slide is not necessary for weekly status meetings
