Orange Polska is one of Poland's largest telecommunications companies serving over 15 million customers. It needed a highly scalable storage solution to manage increasing data volumes. Traditional disk arrays did not offer sufficient scalability or flexibility. Orange implemented a storage infrastructure using LizardFS software-defined storage, which uses commodity hardware and is not dependent on any vendor. This provided a solution that was efficient, highly available, low cost and could scale easily to meet Orange's expanding needs. The infrastructure consisted of 6 storage nodes serving 500TB of data.
