1) The chicken egg begins as a yolk inside the hen's ovary which travels down the oviduct and is covered with membranes and egg white.
2) For an egg to be fertilized, it must be laid by a hen in the presence of a rooster. Most supermarket eggs come from hen-only farms.
3) Inside the egg, development proceeds with the blastoderm developing and allantois beginning to fuse with the chorion by day 6, and ribs appearing by day 13.
