Searingtown PTA and Library are holding a 2nd annual Literary Festival from February 13th to 26th to celebrate reading. Events will include author Skype sessions, classroom reading activities, and a visit from bestselling author Dan Gutman on February 17th. Students will have opportunities to purchase books from Gutman and from the PTA book fair later in February. The festival aims to bring the community together around reading and support literacy efforts globally through World Read Aloud Day and donations to LitWorld.

1. Searingtown’s 2nd Annual Literary Festival!
Searingtown PTA and Searingtown Library have put together two
exceptional weeks of celebrating the power of the written word!
Our 2nd annual LITfest is set to kick off the week of February 13th and
continue the week of February 26th, after President’s Week. We will
participate in LitWorld’s World Read Aloud Day (week) by inviting others into
our literary community via Skype! Mrs. Kliegman will be hosting author
Skype sessions in the library; other reading celebrations will be going on in
the classrooms as well!
On Friday we are so pleased that the PTA has generously brought us another
fabulous author, DAN GUTMAN! Dan Gutman is the New York Times
bestselling author of the Genius Files series. He is also the author of the
Baseball Card Adventure series, which has sold more than 1.5 million copies
around the world, and the My Weird School series, which has sold more than
10 million copies —and is always in the library’s top 5 circulated books!

literacy. Flyers have gone home to pre-order
autographed books by our amazing visiting
author, Dan Gutman.
Additionally, The PTA Scholastic Book Fair will offer a wide array of popular books for purchase
starting February 28th.

ABOUT WORLD READ ALOUD DAY
“Every year World Read Aloud Day calls global
attention to the importance of reading aloud
and sharing stories and is now celebrated by
over one million people in more than 100
countries and reaches over 31 million people

Throughout the week of February 13th we will
celebrate World Read Aloud Day, which takes action on behalf of the 793 million people who
cannot read.
We will re-launch our successful “Kids Helping Kids” quarter collection. The money raised during
our week-long campaign will go to litworld.org to mobilize children and adults around the
world (including the United States) to advocate for literacy as a human right. Through efforts
such as this, our Searingtown students see how they may positively impact other children.
