11. In 1975, Linssen Yachts launched the first of a new generation of St.
Jozef Vlet boats onto the market. Between 1975 and 1985, Jos Linssen
designed a complete range of eight length sizes of St. Jozef Vlet boats
(subsequently renamed Classic Sturdy) in a variety of designs.
The hull shape and styling of all these vlet boats (Sturdys) were based on
the St. Jozef working boats of the 1950s as designed by Jac. Linssen Sr. It
was these St. Jozef Vlet boats and the later Sturdys that laid the foun-
dations for the Linssen brand, a byword for recognisability, consistency,
reliability and value-retention.
The current generation of Classic Sturdys combines traditional and time-
less lines and colours with cutting-edge technologies, the best cruising
characteristics and efficient production techniques.

Hardly any other person has made such a mark on the image of Linssen
Yachts as Anne Elsinga. From his pen have come the legendary Grand
Sturdy Series. It was he who conceived the 9 series, thereby making a
decisive contribution to the boatyard’s success.
So its no surprise that Linssen invited him to use his expertise and crea-
tivity once more to design the Classic Sturdy. He has again succeeded
in bridging the gap between tradition and modernity in a way that is
unique in today’s world. The series is characterised by a classic design
but provided with modern technology, and all of course in line with the
Linssen DNA!

The Classic Sturdy series has a contemporary interior, while retaining
traditional features. The warmth of mahogany alternates with Oyster
White ceilings and wooden panelling in Herreshoff style.
When you step on board, you will be delighted by the window arrange-
ment, which underlines the spacious interior even more. You have excel-
lent exterior views from anywhere on board. The Classic Sturdy 32 and
36 versions have the saloon and galley on the same level. The Classic
Sturdy 42 has a traditional layout with a lower galley and separate di-
nette.
By introducing large elongated portholes and the typical round port-
holes at the front, the forward and aft cabins are also very spacious and
light.

19. All Classic Sturdy models are available as AC (with aft cabin) or Sedan
(with open cockpit). Both versions will appeal to you with their charm
and unique features.
Sedan models have luxurious solid teak double doors, which can be
opened and secured at 180°. This means that while you are at the helm,
you still have optimal contact with the other voyagers in the saloon or
the cockpit.
The Sedan models can also be supplied with the Linssen Variodeck. This
large aluminium sliding roof means that while you are at the wheel in-
side, you still have a feeling of the great outdoors.
In contrast, the AC models have a huge aft cabin with a double bed
and toilet/shower*. There is a spacious aft deck with a folding roof as a
standard feature. This offers protection while you are at the helm out-
side. The aft deck offers excellent views of the passing landscape.

38. A striking feature of the Classic Sturdy is the solid teak sliding door. This
has an important function during longer voyages along European inland
waterways. During bad weather, this sliding door offers access to the
bollards in the locks directly from your helmsman’s position*.
On the face of it, the new sliding door looks like the door on the old
Classic Sturdy, but this door now contains quite a bit of technology. This
technology ensures that during the final 5 cm before closing, the sliding
door automatically pops outwards. The door then bumps against a spe-
cially developed lip-seal. This seal is designed in such a way that if ex-
terior pressure or water pressure increases, the door closes more firmly.

A special characteristic of the vintage Classic Sturdys was the high mast.
The present Classic Sturdy has also been given this trademark. In con-
trast to earlier times, the new mast is equipped not only with top and
anchor lights, it also has antennas*, radar* and far more technology*
(*optional).
The mast therefore had to be constructed more solidly and had to pro-
vide enough space to hold a varied range of equipment without induc-
tion problems.
So a new mast had to be developed: The Linssen Classic Sturdy Mast
(LNM®) (patent pending).
THIS MAST HAS SPECIAL FEATURES:
• it is very elegant
• aluminium construction, completely powder-coated,
preserving it against sea water
• has enough room for all the technical equipment,
so no induction problems
• has concealed cable outlets
• electric mast lowering system (optional)

40. • New hull design. Single chine, providing even higher initial stability.
• New keel/rudder configuration for even better course stability
at any speed.
• New cooling water inlet system. Blockages are almost unheard of.
• New integrated anchor assembly means hull damage is a thing
of the past.
• New fuel system. Tank is at the centre of gravity so that the tank
contents don’t affect the trim or stability fore and aft or on the beam.
• Contra Venturi system for venting the fuel tank.
• Drinking water tanks made from top-grade, food-quality plastic
(patented), specially developed for Classic Sturdy.
• New energy module, with separate batteries for the starter and
on-board power circuits.
• Cleats with integrated stainless steel protective strips specially
developed for the Classic Sturdy.

41. • The Sedan has a unique, self-draining cockpit construction in
the teak deck.
• The Sedan has a new design for U-shaped teak bench seating units.
• The Sedan models feature solid double teak doors which can be
opened 180° and secured.
• Synthetic-fibre rope fender including hand-knotted bow fender,
with special U-shaped holder that keeps the water off.
• The AC features a specially designed 5-fold aluminium windscreen
with standard folding roof.
• Optional: Sedan models are fitted with a new, large aluminium
Variodeck with plastic wheels, on stainless steel construction and
water deflector.
• Interior finished in classic Mahogany and high quality ‘Oyster White’
painted deck head lining and wall covering in Herreshoff-style.
