Light travels at the fastest known speed of 700 million miles per hour. Experiments using stable clocks have measured that it takes about three seconds for light from the moon to reach Earth, and eight minutes for sunlight. When white light passes through a prism, it separates into the colors of the rainbow, demonstrating that light consists of different wavelengths that travel at the same speed.
