Chemical change by Liam

If you do certain things to chemicals, certain reactions will happen
Introduction
This is an experiment about Modification.
Modification means changing, e.g. if I had an apple and I peeled it, I
have changed the way my apple looks. I have modified it.
What my experiment is

My experiment is to melt sugar and turn it into carbon.

Sugar is a white crystal, it comes from a plant called sugar cane. Sugar is
sweet and crunchy, a little bit of sugar is fine but a lot can be
unhealthy. It is surprising that something from a plant can be
  unhealthy.

Carbon is in coal, oil and in plants. It can be solid and it is black
.
My prediction of what happens
I think that the sugar will start to melt and then dry up after I’ve heated it.
Materials

 One teaspoon of sugar
 A small pot
 A stove
method

1. Put one teaspoon of sugar into a large pot and
spread evenly over the bottom of the pot. One
   millimetre is ideal.
2. Put the pot on low heat, the sugar will start to melt
   and turn to liquid.
3. Slowly it will start to blacken and harden.
4. This is carbon.
Observation

1. The sugar started to melt.
2. It started to go toffee colour
3. Slowly it went solid and black and turn into carbon
Why it happened
When the sugar turned to liquid the heat made the sugar dry up.
I kept heating the sugar after it dried up and that’s when it turned
to carbon.
Thanks for watching
