Liam Redmond, BA Gnó agus Gaeilge 2013
Liam Redmond, a final year student doing the BA Gnó agus Gaeilge tells us about his course
and the organisation he founded – HeadstARTS.
I chose to do the BA Gnó agus Gaeilge with Fiontar, DCU because business and Irish were the
two subjects I preferred in secondary school. I chose Fiontar because of the their small classes
and the variety of their modules. When I arrived to DCU, things were better than I expected. I
think one of the strengths that Fiontar has is its lecturers and friendly staff. If you have a
problem, they are there to help you.
With my time at university almost over, I can say that I really enjoyed DCU. Fiontar had a part
to play in why I thoroughly enjoyed my university life. Even though the education is top class, I
made friends in Fiontar who will be with me for the rest of my life. Also, I was able to establish
a new organisation called HeadstARTS. HeadstARTS was my dream for many years.
HeadstARTS brings people with intellectual disability together through Arts. Classes in Art,
Dance and Drama take place every Tuesday. We have a strong membership and we hope to
organise more clubs from September onwards. HeadstARTS would’nt have happened without
the help and support I received from Fiontar and the Bunú Fiontar (Enterprise Startup) module
that we do in our final year for the BA Gnó agus Gaeilge. The Enterprise Startup module
provide me with the resources to develop HeadstARTS and run classes every week. It gives me
a real perspective about the business world also – which will be important for when I leave
university.
