Leveraging Running Stateful
Workloads on Kubernetes for
the Benefit of Developers

these days
● A similar solution, however, isn’t available during
development
● This amplifies the already large gap in dev environments
and production
Remote Development Environments

leverage K8s solve this
problem
● Exactly production like
environment during development
● Easy to replicate all data
based workloads running in
production while developing
How Extendi does it!
● Each developer has the option to get access to production
data during development easily
● An isolated namespace is used for databases where the DBs
are populated with production data
● Then snapshots are taken of the volumes attached to these
DBs
● These Volume Snapshots then are used to populate the
volumes in each developer’s namespace as needed

● What you just saw was only one of
the many cool things you can do to
make development easy
● Running your dev environment on K8s
means, ANYTHING you do with data in
production - you can replicate
easily during development
● When there are convenient ways to
run Data on K8s, why not leverage
them for development too?
It is essential to bridge the gap
● Data plays a crucial role in
the performance of our
microservices
● Not being able to replicate
this EXACTLY as it happens in
production has a lot of
downsides
● Running production data on
Kubernetes during development
