“One man never made a team.”
Detailed and well-structured handover from operating theatre to ICU is a cornerstone for uncomplicated postoperative care. The constant handover of the information between the members of the perioperative team (surgeon+anaesthetist+intensivist) is a crucial importance. Surgeon and anaesthetist are the key players in the operating room, aiming for a common goal – safety and good outcome for patient. Communication is the glue that holds the team together and is the source of motivation for all and the followings always should been discussed (Reintam et al.):
- exact description of surgical procedure (type of resection, number and placement of drains, timing of drain removal, etc...)
- possible bowel distention and impaired perfusion
- contamination of peritoneal cavity
- location of anastomosis, stoma (small bowel or colon), quality of anastomosis
- risk for bleeding
- type of closure (mesh, fascial, open abdomen, etc...)
- when to start oral diet / enteral feeding

Being a nurse is not just another job, it is a solemn responsibilty NEVER to be taken lightly or for granted. Congratulations on making a life changing, challenging, exhaustive, and absolutely the BEST choice you could make.
You are about to change the world.
This is a talk that I have given to general practitioners on the importance of identifying and treating post-surgical pain both in the acute and chronic phase. It is an important topic that has been given more attention after IASP's Global Year against Post-Surgical Pain in 2017.

To whom it may concern.
I am truly delighted to write this letter in support of Dr. med. Diana Mathioudakis,
DEAA, EDIC.
I have personally known Dr. Mathioudakis for many years since she was my
supervisor during my rotation in the Departments of Cardiac Anaesthesia as well as
Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery in the Centre of Anaesthesiology, Emergency and
Intensive Care Medicine at the University Hospital of Goettingen in Germany.
Therefore, I believe, I speak with authority in regards to her abilities as a true
physician scientist.
I rarely have met a physician who is so dedicated to academic medicine. She is
willing to go beyond the expected in order to achieve excellence in patient care and
in the advancement of clinical science. Dr. Mathioudakis an excellent example of
someone who is able to combine a busy and demanding clinical schedule with
meaningful teaching of young colleagues.
I must highlight her eagerness of teaching not only techniques of transoesophageal
echocardiography (TEE) in cardiac anaesthesia, but also quick and safe procedures
of both central venous lines and peripheral nerve blocks, even if times were busy
during our on-call duties.

Furthermore, until today, many young colleagues whom I taught TEE and both
sonographic and non-sonographic vascular access procedures, in anaesthesia and in
ICU, profited from her diligence to meticulously work with young colleagues such as
me. Also, she became an invaluable source of information and inspiration for my own
professional clinical career and guided my decisions regarding future career
decisions.
Sincerely,
