To Whom It May Concern:
As President of FarmedHere, LLC (“FarmedHere” or “we”), I am thrilled to have the opportunity to write this
letter of recommendation in support of Alexander George (“Alex”). FarmedHere is a commercial-scale indoor
farm in Bedford Park, Illinois. We grow basil, leafy greens, and microgreens in a 90,000 square foot warehouse,
24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Alex served as an intern for FarmedHere during a three-month period (May
to July) during the summer of 2015, and during that time he supported both our management and horticultural
teams.
During his tenure at FarmedHere, Alex impressed the FarmedHere management team with his intellect, his
resourcefulness, and his good nature. Less than a week into his internship, Alex had produced a sophisticated
drawing of FarmedHere’s grow systems, including location of fish tanks, pipes, grow systems, and lighting. He
did this with little or no oversight, and it is a tool that we continue to use. Throughout his internship, Alex
continued to apply his engineering skills to projects involving our HVAC system and environmental controls. For
example, Alex led FarmedHere’s efforts to find and implement a comprehensive environmental sensor system
that would allow us to track temperature, nutrients, humidity, and other parameters electronically. As a first
mover in the indoor farming industry, FarmedHere had spent years trying to locate a sensor system that would fit
its unique circumstances. Alex took the initiative to reach out to multiple suppliers, conduct phone meetings and
email conversations, and create a report detailing ideal sensor system. Alex further demonstrated his flexibility
and resourcefulness as part of a team that helped to create a geographical expansion plan for FarmedHere. This
plan required national research on the farming industry as well as real estate trends, energy prices, organic
markets, and other factors. Not only was Alex smart and helpful, but he also proved his ability to collaborate,
listen, learn, and work successfully as part of a team.
In addition to assisting the management team, Alex also assisted FarmedHere’s horticultural teams. At a high
level, Alex performed an analysis of FarmedHere’s biofiltration systems and created a report backed by scientific
data to support his conclusions. Alex also researched and created a report on options to seal FarmedHere’s roof
and to improve its ability to withstand humid growing conditions. At a more basic level, Alex performed water
testing, got his hands dirty and organized our organic chemical storage areas, researched plant issues, and in
general proved himself willing to assist our growers in a variety of ways. Our growers noted that Alex is a doer –
if something needed to get done (such as organizing an area of the farm quickly), the growers could count on Alex
to execute.
Overall, FarmedHere was very happy with Alex’s contribution to our farm and operations, and we would highly
