When the world is round, don't pretend it’s flat; based on over a decade of Ashridge research, hundreds of senior leaders were asked two fundamental questions. First questions was “picture yourself 10 years ago, what do you know now that you wish you’d known then?” and the second was “what have been the most critical incidents during your career that have truly shaped and developed you as a leader?”. In this session Vicki will share with you the results of this research and the ‘fight or flight’ element that explores participants’ physiological response to critical leadership incidents. Join Vicki and find out how you can also shape your leaders for success in a volatile world.
Christians claim that the Gospel has the power to change everyones life. This is a bold claim, can it really be that the Gospel can transform people irrespective of their background or how far they may find themselves from the teachings of Jesus?
Most developers get started building applications without giving a lot of thought to their database. Either they get told that the company does everything with Database X, or they Google around and end up using MySQL or MS Access. Neither of these is the wrong choice, but it's often not the best choice. I was one of those guys, first with Access and then MySQL. As I've moved through my career, I've used a lot of database systems, both relational and non-relational ("NoSQL"), and my go-to choice has become PostgreSQL.
I'm not going to spend much time on the "SQL vs NoSQL" debate. It's sort of a straw man argument, because they're solving a variety of fundamentally different problems. It's also much better in discussion format, for that same reason: so much variety.
Like everything else in technology, there is no one-size-fits-all solution, but I want to show why I think it's a great first choice for most things, and the reasons why a lot of other options fall short. Your choice of database can shape a lot of how you build your application, how well it performs, and how it can grow over time. It can be a productivity boon, or force you to constantly working around it's limitations. As application developers, we should be spending our time solving business problems, not on low-level technology plumbing.
This session is intended for people who have built a few database-backed applications, and are curious about what options are out there and how to go about choosing between them.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

CHAIRMAN, AUROVILLE FOUNDATION
Dear Working Committee,
I am shocked to learn of the terrible devastation inflicted on Auroville by the
typhoon last week, I have read newspaper reports but it is only when Aster called
me on the telephone that I realised the immensity of the damage. I will
do wherever I can to help in rebuilding and restoring Auroville.
I was wondering what the deeper significance of such an event could be.
Almost a century ago Sri Aurobindo in 1907 speaking on the repression by the
British of the nationalist revival in 1905 wrote, as follows:
“We were building an edifice to be the temple of our Mother’s worship—were
rearing her a new and fair mansion, a palace fit for her dwelling. It was then that He came
down upon us. He flung Himself upon the building we had raised. He shook the roof with
His mighty hands and part of the building was displaced and ruined. Why has He done
this? Repression is nothing but the hammer of God that is beating us into shape so that we
may be moulded into a mighty nation and an instrument for His work in the world. We are
iron upon His anvil and the blows are showering upon us not to destroy but to re-create.
Without suffering there can be no strength,—without sacrifice there can be no growth.”
CWSA Vol.8, Karmayogin, Jhalakati Speech, page 37- 38
Perhaps the signal is that Auroville needs a total renewal and a deeper
inner spiritual dedication.
The New Year has started on a very tragic note for Auroville but I hope and
pray that things will continue to improve. It is significant that the magnificent
Matrimandir was unscathed by this terrible storm.
