Lessons from the Mount
Matthew 5-7: Sermon on the Mount.
It takes less than 15 minutes to read, but a lifetime
to study and master.
If we want stable lives, we must build them on the
foundation of Jesus’ words.
 Matt. 7:24-27: The wise and foolish men.
 What have you built your spiritual house on?
True blessedness comes from walking with Jesus.
 Matt. 5:3-11: The Beatitudes.
 Matt. 7:13-14: Which way? God’s or the world’s?
Lessons from the Mount
If we want to enter the kingdom of heaven, our
righteousness must exceed the scribes/Pharisees.
 Matt. 5:20: God demands more.
 4 keys to surpassing righteousness:
 We can’t be righteous on our own (Matt. 5:3-6;
Luke 18:9, 13).
 Let our light shine (Matt. 5:16; 6:1-2, 5, 16;
John 15:8).
 Start with the heart (Matt. 5:21-48; 23:25-28).
 Obey the full intent of God’s commands.
Lessons from the Mount
If we want to live this sermon, we must treat others
the way we want to be treated.
 Matt. 7:12: The Golden Rule.
 Lev. 19:18: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
 Matt. 22:37-40: The greatest commandments.
 As we consider day-to-day how to live this sermon
practically, we need to hang our hats on this rule.
Jesus’ words are our foundation for a stable life, no
matter what the world thinks of us.
True joy is discovered in the blessings of God.
