LESSON 9:
SOCIAL
NETWORK
WHAT IS SOCIAL
NETWORK?
 A social network is a social structure comprised
of several components of human organizations.
The social network is a theoretical construct
used to study relationships between individuals,
groups, organizations, and varied social units in
the society. There are relationships and
interaction taking place within the network. The
social network has followed certain patterns to
understand the structure which implies local and
global patterns and the dynamics of the
networks.
WHAT ARE THE
GENERAL LEVELS OF
NETWORKS?
Social networks are groups that are self-
organizing, emergent, and complex, according
to the pattern of interaction happening within
them. Social networks are analyzed at certain
scales.
3 GENERAL LEVELS INTO WHICH
NETWORKS ARE CATEGORIZED:
1. MICRO LEVEL
- At the micro-level, social network begins
with an individual, snowballing as it begins
with a small group of individuals interacting
with one another. It involves small- scale
interaction that takes place between
individuals like what happens in conversation
and interactions.
2. MESO LEVEL
- Meso-level includes social organizations and communities of correction.
They comprise the middle level of control as the deviants are confines to them
until they can start to comply with the bigger society’s norms and expectation.
For instance are rehabilitation centers, mental facilities and prisons where a law
breaker is re-oriented
.
