Explanation/analysis/argument (16-20 marks)  • Shows excellent understanding of the task  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects used in the extract  • Excellent discussion of the extract’s representations, clearly linked to textual analysis  • Clearly relevant to set question  Use of examples (16-20 marks)  • Offers frequent textual analysis from the extract – award marks to reflect the range and appropriateness of examples  • Offers a full range of examples from each technical area  • Offers examples which are clearly relevant to the set question  Use of terminology (8-10 marks)  • Use of terminology is relevant and accurate  General Complex issues have been expressed clearly and fluently using a style of writing appropriate to the complex subject matter. Sentences and paragraphs, consistently relevant, have been well structured, using appropriate technical terminology. There may be few, if any, errors of spelling, punctuation and grammar.
During the extract (in your teams) choose one technical area of focus on  1. Cinematography 2. Editing  3. Sound  4. Mise-en-Scène Candidates should be prepared to discuss, in response to the question, how these technical elements create specific representations of individuals, groups, events or places and help to articulate specific messages and values that have social significance.
Teams  Team 1: Imy, Dan, Lauren , Frances 	 Team 2:	Hayley, Marcie, Scott, 	Gabby, 	 Team 3: Harriet, Charlie, Mollie, Ben Reserves/ Team 4: Diva, Joy, Emma, Zander
Teachers  Discuss the ways in which the extract constructs representations of young professionals using the following: cinematography, editing, sound and mise-en-scene Watch extract through once with no note-making Watch again while making notes Watch once or twice more if needed
Cinematography Canted angle = deliberately slanted Dolly = Camera mounted on moving cart (smooth)
Rule of thirds Divides image into thirds Most important elements placed where lines intersect Creates a balanced image where the subject is away from the edge of the frame
Sound  Synchronous = are those sounds which are synchronised or matched with what is viewed Asynchronous = are those sounds which are not synchronised or matched with what is viewed Sound motif = a pattern in the sound that often runs through   Score (soundtrack) = background music or incidental music
Class Essays  4 competing groups each consisting of at least 1 person covering each technical area Each group will put together a complete essay covering all 4 technical areas for submission & assessment The group with the winning essay will get a prize!
Homework: Due – 29th March Task: prepare an individual presentation conducting a detailed textual analysis of a 1-2 minute extract from a TV drama of your choice. This should be accompanied by an interactive teaching activity to carry out with the class – try to be creative with this First come first served on TV Drama to use
