Leonora Horigome is a Japanese American woman who was interned during World War II along with over 120,000 other Japanese Americans. She was sent to the Rohwer War Relocation Center in Arkansas at age 17 where she and her family lived in harsh conditions behind barbed wire fences under armed guard for over 3 years. Despite facing discrimination and hardship, Ms. Horigome went on to have a successful career as a teacher and community leader after the war.
