OUR VISION

OUR PROJECT
The BridgeBuilders project aimed to connect community members innovatively.
Partnering with the Janesville Boys and Girls Club SMART Girls Program, we empowered
school-aged girls through health, fitness, prevention education, and self-esteem
building activities.
We facilitated monthly sessions with female leaders from various industries, providing
insights and inspiration. The project culminated in a career fair, a luncheon with
business leaders, and a graduation program, celebrating the girls' achievements and
equipping them for future success.
We are proud of the impact made and grateful for the partnership with the Janesville
Boys and Girls Club.

#3 The Bridge Builders project envisioned empowering young girls to explore their potential and build self-esteem through mentorship and educational opportunities. By partnering with the Janesville Boys and Girls Club SMART Girls Program, we connected school-aged girls with inspiring female leaders, showcasing the endless possibilities in various industries.
Through engaging activities and events like career fairs and luncheons, we inspired and equipped them for future success. Together, we built bridges to a brighter future, one girl at a time.
#9 The first challenge our group faced was of course getting to know each other and understand the best ways to connect and motivate each other based on our underlying colors. Once we tackled that hurdle, we next needed to determine our project. It was at our November session that we faced a pivotal moment in our project, say yes to working with the boys and girls club or choose a different path. At that session we asked ourselves the challenging questions of is this what we envisioned our LDA project to look like? Are we passionate about this project? And maybe even the toughest question, are we asking the right questions to determine what the right project is for us. Once we took the leap with saying yes to partnering with the Boys and Girls Club Smart program we had a lot of worries about budget. The Boys & Girls Club was generous to allocate to us $2,500.00 for our event, but with this being a brand new event that we were organizing, we all were experiencing the worry of "will this be enough" and as the event got closer I think we all worried "should we have fundraised?" Nonetheless, we ended up staying under budget and thanks to the boys & girls club it alleviated the financial burden off our shoulders for planning this project. The file challeneges we encompassed were with the final event we wanted to ensure that the career fair we organized was age friendly. The girls we were to primarily be working with were 10 year old girls and we wanted to make sure the career fair engaged them in a way similar to our monthly sessions. We also wanted the event to be the right balance of focusing on their future while also celebrating their accomplishments from over the year. Overall when we focused on the most important part, the girls having a good time with female role models, the rest seemed easy, but it was the nuances that we had to care about to ensure we overcame the challenges.
#10 Our monthly sessions were some of our group members, including mine, favorite part of our project. We were able to bring in driven females in their industry of choice to share with the girls about their passion. Our first speaker was Elizabeth Swart, from Wells Fargo Advisors here in Janesville. She taught the girls the importance between spending, saving, and investing. The girls were also lucky enough to take home piggy banks to start their saving goals early. Our next monthly session featured the "Jessicas" from Corporate Contractors Incorporation (CCI). These two provided some great lessons on how construction works and an awesome activity that involved building a home and putting it to the test of the wrecking ball. Finally, we had members from the janesville police department visit with the girls as our final monthly session. The girls were estactic to hear about ways they could become a police officer one day too, and especially perhaps work with the canine team and their new friend Victos.
#19 In summary, we the Bridge Builders partnered with the Janesville B&GC to bring the national program Smart girls to our local club. We helped facilitate career exploration, boosted self-esteem, and promoted healthy living through the monthly events and inaugural luncheon that we put on. It overall seemed well received and we're super proud to have been a part of it.
