Laser ablation (LA) therapy is a new approach to enhance microbial reduction in root canals after preparation. It uses laser energy absorbed by a solution to carbonize and kill microbes in the localized area through heat. Laser Assisted Irrigation also uses lasers to move traditional irrigants into hard to reach areas of the root canal, helping disinfect them. Photodynamic therapy similarly uses light activated chemicals to kill attached bacteria without harming surrounding tissues.
