Larissa is the capital and largest city of the Thessaly region of Greece, with a population of around 174,000 people. It is a major agricultural and transportation center. Legend says Achilles was born in Larissa and the physician Hippocrates died there. The climate is transitional between cold winters and hot summers. In Greek mythology, the city was founded by Acrisius and was also the home of the hero Peleus and his son Achilles.
