Thanksgiving is an American holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It is based on an old folktale of Pilgrims sharing a feast with Native Americans in 1621 to give thanks for a good harvest. Families come together to eat turkey and side dishes. Major parades are held, such as the Macy's parade in New York City featuring large balloons and performances. The modern Thanksgiving tradition started as a way to celebrate the early contact between European settlers and Native Americans in the U.S. and has become an annual celebration of being thankful.
SeñOr De Los Milagros Diego Rivera
The devotion that worshippers have for the Señor de los Milagros began after an earthquake in 1655 in Lima, Peru. One of the few things that remained standing after the earthquake was a painting of Jesus Christ, which became known as the Señor de los Milagros. Since then, devotion for the painting has grown immensely, with hundreds coming to request miracles. Especially in October, worshippers gather to praise and ask for miracles from the Señor de los Milagros. The procession in Lima for the Señor de los Milagros is one of the biggest, with people accompanying the image of Jesus Christ through the streets.

There are around 3000 celebrations that take place annually in Peru. Some of the major celebrations discussed include Inti Raymi, a festival held on June 24th in the main square where two llamas are sacrificed in a ceremony that dates back to Inca times. Corpus Christi involves processions of 15 saints and virgins images to greet the body of Christ 60 days after Easter over seven days. The Candelaria Virgin celebration lasts 8 days in towns near Lake Titicaca and involves colorful celebrations.

Inti Raymi is an Incan festival celebrating the winter solstice and the return of the sun. It was originally celebrated in the ancient city of Cuzco on June 24th, where Incans would pray to their sun god Inti. Though banned by Spanish colonizers, a modern version was recreated in the 1940s based on historical accounts, and is now celebrated with reenactments of battles and the lighting of ceremonial fires.

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and originated from the Celtic harvest festival called Samhain. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and dead became blurred and spirits of the dead returned to Earth. Now, Halloween is celebrated as a fun holiday where people decorate with black and orange colors and are no longer truly worried about ghosts.

Go Skateboarding Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated annually on June 21st where skaters gather to skateboard together. It began as a play on "No Skateboarding" signs being altered to say "Go Skateboarding." While most events are intended to celebrate skating, some skaters have faced legal issues with police overskating in prohibited areas. Events now take place worldwide with skaters gathering in large numbers to skate in parks and streets and promote the growth of skateboarding.
