4. JUDGE NOT?
Mat 7:1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with
what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with
the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
Mat 7:3 And why do you look at the speck in your
brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your
own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let
me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank
is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank
from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to
remove the speck from your brother's eye.
5. BUT JUDGMENT WILL COME
Rom 2:1 Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever
you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you
condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same
things. 2 But we know that the judgment of God is
according to truth against those who practice such things.
3 And do you think this, O man, you who judge those
practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will
escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you despise the
riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not
knowing that the goodness of God leads you to
repentance?
6. ACT 11:25
Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul. 26
And when he had found him, he brought him to
Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled
with the church and taught a great many people. And
the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Categorical labeling is a tool that humans use to resolve the impossible complexity of the environments we grapple to perceive. Like so many human faculties, it's adaptive and miraculous, but it also contributes to some of the deepest problems that face our species. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/alternative-truths/201005/why-its-dangerous-label-people
People find it very problematic to be labelled, whether it is according to economic standing, intelligence, size, sexual preference, race, religion and so on. The problem is that labels often is a result of or leads to discrimination and devaluating of people.
When Jesus spoke about not judging people it may have been that if He spoke in a modern context He could have said don’t label each other. But is it possible to never label anything or use no judgment in life? Does this mean anything goes and we may never ascribe anything to any person? Why did Jesus have a problem with us judging each other?
God has no time for hypocrisy. It is obvious that we must judge in this world but we must judge ourselves first. 1Co 11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.
We must have a total commitment to what is right, not just be committed to right when it suits us but live with the two edged sword of truth. We must let it cut us first so that our lives will provide others with the challenge that the Word may cut them also.
We will always wear labels, even the word Christian is a label.
To be labeled a Christian today is often meant as an insult. By it people can imply that you are dumb, small minded, bigoted, judgmental etc. The label should mean we are followers of Christ.
What is your primary label? What is the label you wear and the label people read first. Is it your personality, your race, your title, job or qualifications, your looks, your intelligence, your strength and fitness etc?
Identify – By our label people should know we have been with Jesus.
Inform – If the look a little closer they should be informed that we are not perfect or putting ourselves above them that our ingredients are 100% human with all the human failings and weaknesses but that we are 100% forgiven and restored into the righteousness of God. We should provide them with a challenge.
Invite – Our label can be well designed with nice colours and fashionable fonts but it should never be false or make empty promises.
