- Hello and welcome to our Webinar. Today we will be discussing Digital Transformation and how it can impact you. My name is Katie Panzica. I am the Product Manager here at Kiriworks. And with me today is Mike Hurley, Manager of Healthcare Payers at Hyland Software the developer of OnBase. Before we get started I wanted to remind everyone that our lines are muted. - Digital Transformation, what is it? Some may think it is about going paperless and having everything electronic or going mobile so information can be easily access at your fingertip. You may hear the words optimization, innovation or flexibility. All of this is correct. These are all pieces of the digital transformation puzzle. When we discuss digital transformation we are talking about the broad range of technologies and applications that enable you to be more efficient, create automation within your processes, allow for better decision making and a better customer experience, which all lead to productivity improvements which is the lifeblood of all industries, not just healthcare payers.
- Which means Digital transformation is about outcomes. What do I mean by that? When you think Digital transformation, you should think organizational change! An opportunity to rethink the way you do business. How can we eliminate obstacles that we run into on a daily basis? These can range from not getting answers, delays in a process, unmanageable workload balance. What parts of our process can we automate? How many of our manual tasks can be done with technology? How can we collect data to improve our process and make better decisions? Communication is a key factor when a process has many moving parts. Some processes may involve 7 departments and touch 100 people before it is completed. So how can departments work better together? And all of these transformations need to meet compliance requirements while seeing improved productivity. So our end goal is to create better outcomes!
- But the digital playing field is changing and it is causing disruption for those who don’t embrace this change. For example, today people want things instantly and access things easily. Take taxis, what has disrupted this business…Uber. People like having the ability to order transportation from there phone and track the entire process from order to delivery (car arriving). Can also use AirBnB or Netflix. You need to get ahead of the change to create a stronger completive advantage.
- And to do that you need the right set of tools.
- And those tools are technology and applications on a single platform. - That gentleman on the left is Alexander Bain. A Scottish inventor and entrepreneur. He was the Steve Jobs of his time, he thought about technology combinations In 1841, he saw possibility of combining electricity and time keeping, he invented the first electric clock A couple of years later he thought that he could leverage electricity, telegraph and chemistry. He invented the first fax machine. This innovation now allowed documents to be sent between cities via telegraph lines
- Fast forward to today, America runs on Dunkin…. And the most expensive, technically advanced healthcare system on the planet runs on still runs on Alexander Bain’s 1843 invention … but unlike the Michigan Avenue Bridge, the fax has not aged well
