The Kenya Rural Roads Authority has made significant progress in improving rural road infrastructure over the past five years. They have upgraded over 2,500km of roads to bitumen standard under the Low Volume Sealed Roads Programme, with over 6,000km of ongoing road works. Maintenance of over 30,000km of roads was carried out in the 2018/19 financial year. As a result of these infrastructure improvements, access to amenities and economic development has increased in many rural areas.
