3. In June 1940 Kaunas was occupied and
annexed by Soviet in accordance with the
Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
One year later German military occupied
Kaunas during World War II. The
government's powers were taken over by
the new occupants.

4. Kaunas city is a centered around culture. The Old Town of Kaunas is located on the
confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers. The Old Town is the historical center
of Kaunas. The streets in Old Town have been turned to pedestrian sidewalks.
Prominent features of the Old Town includes Kaunas Castle , the Town Hall , and
the historical Presidential Palace. The Town Hall in Kaunas played an important
role in the Medieval Times as a center for trade, festivals. In Kaunas monuments
and other historical buildings are located.

chemical industry, publishing and processing,
pharmaceuticals, metal industry, wood processing
and furniture industry.
