Teachers can freely use purchased or rented videos, DVDs, and laser disks in the classroom without restrictions on length or number of uses. Videos can also be copied for archival purposes or to replace lost, stolen, or damaged copies as long as replacements are not available at a fair price and in the required format. Section 110 of the Copyright Act specifies that videos must be legally obtained copies used solely for instructional purposes at non-profit educational institutions to fall under fair use exemptions.
