This document provides an overview and history of justice, morality, and inequality in the modern American economy. It is divided into three parts: from 1947-1973 equality reigned as America established its middle class; 1974-1990 cracks emerged as industries declined and unions weakened; 1991-2016 inequality grew profoundly as globalization, automation, outsourcing, executive pay shifts, and financialization drove profits and wealth to the top while mobility declined. The class will discuss these economic issues and explore alternative systems and values.
