Weekly Junior Golf Competition
February 2016Volume Issue
Junior Golf News
A new initiative to provide a weekly junior
golf competition (9 holes) has taken off at
Pitch and Putt-Waverley Course.
Competitors came from a number of junior
golf programs including Mygolf, Sporting
Schools and Huntingdale Golf Course.
It was a tightly fought competition with
players being challenged with a number of
golf formats including; stroke play and
modified stableford.
Brodie McToldridge was the overall winner, Carter Chan and Aaron Kuusela
were equal second place and Tess McToldridge was a close third. It is hoped
that other larger golf courses will come on board and open up their doors to
juniors, under 12, with weekly golf competitions which may eventually lead to
weekly interclub competitions. A new junior weekly golf competition is
commencing in Term One, 2016. You are welcome to call Lynette Hayhurst on
9728 6196 to discuss this exciting new program to move from coaching clinics
to regular weekly competition.

US Kids Golf Comes to the Land Down Under
U.S. Kids Golf provides high quality junior golf equipment, instruction and tournaments. The vision of this
company is to help kids learn the game of golf while having fun! They are a relatively new entrant to the Aus-
tralian Golf scene and are doing some great things for Kids golf.
Equipment
U.S. Kids golf equipment is designed and fitted for kids based on their height. Juniors between 5 and 14 will
fall into one of nine height categories, clubs are therefore weighted correctly, which provide kids with the
greatest chance of success. Many coaching professionals see kids using incorrect clubs for their size and
ability. The result is that they achieve greater success and they want to keep playing. U.S. Kids Golf also
offer a great range of kids golf apparel, golf accessories and hardware.
Tournaments
When kids are learning the game of golf they are often restricted to the practice green and the driving
range. What they miss is an opportunity to learn the game of golf in a competitive environment that is fun
and offers the chance to play out what they have been practicing. U.S. Kids Golf run a series of tournament
events around Australia. Tournaments open to anyone from absolute beginners to advanced players. Kids
don’t require handicaps as they play reduced yardage depending on their age.
U.S. Kids Golf are very passionate about encouraging more kids to play the great game of golf so whilst they
offer competition and pathways to elite events, the emphasis is on fun and on family involvement. If you are
interested in entering any of the U.S. Kids tournaments listed below then you can enter online on
www.uskidsgolf.com.au
Family Courses
To encourage beginners and families into the sport of golf US Kids Golf have developed the concept of the
Family Course. This involves putting in two new tees forward of the existing tees on each hole. These tees
reduce the distances to the greens for kids or beginners allowing the entire family to play a game of golf at
a level that is appropriate to their ability.
For more information on any of the above please contact:
US Kids Golf Australia on 0498 988 455 or www.uskidsgolf.com.au
Huntingdale Golf Course sadly farewelled Kate Dunn last year. Parents were very sad to lose such a
respected and enthusiastic coach.
Recently I met Lisa Jean, Kate’s replacement, who will bring her own unique style and expertise to this high
quality and exciting junior golf program.
I look forward to working together with her in the junior golf program this year.

Doing the Right Thing
Golf is a game with many rules that everyone is expected to follow. Rules, rules, rules, rules. Golf has a little
official book filled with its many rules. Some might say, ‘What does it matter if I cheat and no-one catches
me?’ If you are willing, golf will teach you some vital lessons for life.
“Doing the right thing and doing what I know is right in my heart and in my conscience is more
important than short-term success.” Blayne Barber, 22, after disqualifying himself from Q-School
for signing an incorrect scorecard six days after advancing to the second stage.
Blayne Barber heard a little voice inside—his conscience - that told him winning was not as important as doing
the right thing. If we choose to ignore or override our conscience on the golf course then many other
decisions in life might be made with much more serious consequences. Your friends might pressure you to
‘forget the helmet and ride with us.’ In the short term you might win their approval but the consequences
can be tragic. If you know in your heart you shouldn’t ride your bike without a helmet but you decide to do it
anyway, you risk an accident with the potential result of permanent brain injury or death. The little voice in
our heart is our friend protecting us from danger, embarrassment and regret, ensuring we know in our heart
our successes in life are well earned with a good consciences in tact. Blayne may have decided to tell the truth
for many reasons including: wanting to win with a clear consciences, feelings of guilt, respect for the other
players.
So enjoy your game of golf with a clear conscience because you want to do the right thing both now and in the
future

Penalty Strokes
At times a player may accidentally do something which will result in a penalty being applied. Some examples
are:
1. Out-of-bounds
A ball that lies out-of-bounds must be re-hit from the original position. A one-stroke penalty must
apply, plus the original shot must count.
2. Unplayable ball
If a ball rests in a position where it is unplayable, eg. against a tree, it may be lifted and dropped
within two club lengths of the original position. A one-stroke penalty applies
3. Hitting the wrong ball
If a player accidentally plays the wrong ball, the original ball must then be played with a two-stroke
penalty
