Did you know that, in 2011, NASA launched the spacecraft Juno to
study the planet Jupiter? Juno’s five-year journey ends on July 4, 2016. The craft
began orbiting Jupiter to learn more about the planet’s composition and formation.
Juno is the second orbiter that has been sent to the biggest planet in our solar
system. Fun fact: The planet Jupiter is named after the Roman god of the sky, whose
wife was the goddess of family, Juno.
The clever name isn’t the only thing making Juno a very special spacecraft. Through
NASA’s partnership with the LEGO company, there are three unusual passengers
on Juno: specially crafted LEGO Minifigures of Galileo himself and the mythological
figures of Jupiter and Juno. Unlike traditional plastic minifigs, these tiny astronauts
were constructed from space-grade aluminum and covered with thermal blankets to
make sure they would survive the flight.
“We hope that [these LEGO Minifigures] will increase [children’s awareness of] the
space program and get them interested,” said principal investigator for the Juno
mission, Scott Bolton. Astronomy is certainly a great way to get kids interested in
science.
Though we won’t be able to watch Juno reaching Jupiter here on Earth, there are
countless interesting sights visible just overhead after sunset. Warm summer
nights provide the perfect opportunity for some fun family stargazing. Get your
kids engaged with the science and discovery of astronomy. All you need is a comfy
blanket and a view of the night sky.
DISCOVER CONSTELLATIONS. Start the evening by discovering the
constellations. Grab a book from the library to see what constellations are visible
this time of year. Make a game out of finding them among the stars. Most of these
constellations have their own stories from ancient times that kids will love to hear.
For added fun, suggest that your kids find and name their own constellations. Take
turns making up stories about these new starry friends.
FIND THE PLANETS. Keep in mind that not everything in the night sky is a star.
Some of those bright stars might actually be a planet. How can
Hi Everyone:
I want to start off by thanking everyone
who referred us cases in the last month,
including divorce, custody modifications,
and legitimation cases. There is no greater
compliment I can think of than to refer
friends and family to us. Thank you for
your faith in us!
As I write this month’s update, Aimee is
in Wrightsville Beach North Carolina with
four of our six nieces and nephews at Surf
Camp. If you are looking for something
fun and unique to do with your kids this
summer, this should make your list of
things to check out! They cater to children
of all ages, which means everyone can
participate.
Our nephew Sean has been to Surf Camp
one other time, but the other three are
first timers. All are having a blast! As a
beach girl, Aimee isn’t exactly suffering
either!
Finding new and creative things to do with
your kids can be difficult, but we can help
each other by sharing ideas. If you have
ideas that can help others, please post
them on our Facebook page or send them
to me in an email so I can share them.
Thanks,
-Dave

Nothing says summer like cold ice cream,
that inevitable sunburn, and the terrify-
ing spike in your electric bill. As the tem-
perature goes up outside, the thermostat
goes down inside. Staying comfortable in
your own home shouldn’t mean throwing
your money on the fire. Here are a few
things you can do around the house to
enjoy the air conditioning and spare your
wallet at the same time.
Watch those Windows
• Ensure your windows are completely
sealed. Use caulk or weather strip-
ping to eliminate any air leaks to
keep cool air in and hot air out. This
will also help keep your house warm
come winter.
• Use blinds, drapes, or other cover-
ings to block your windows and keep
hot sunlight out.
• If the weather permits, give your
thermostat a break in the evenings
by opening a few windows and
letting the night air keep your house
cooler while you sleep.
Factor in the Fans
• According to Energy.gov, when the
ceiling fan is on, you can raise the
thermostat by 4 degrees without
sacrificing comfort.
• Remember the fans in your bath-
room, too. Switching those on after
a hot shower removes the heat and
humidity before it can escape into
the rest of your house.
Attend to Your Appliances
• Keep unnecessary lights turned off.
Energy.gov estimates only 10 to 15
percent of electricity consumed by
incandescent lightbulbs becomes
light. The rest is converted into heat.
• Avoid using the oven on hot days.
Stick with the stove top, microwave,
or outdoor grill to keep from adding
more heat to your house.
• Use the cold water setting on your
washing machine when cleaning
your clothes and line dry them if
possible. The Consumer Energy Cen-
ter calculates doing so can cut your
energy bill by 4 percent.
Someone is bound to get sun burned
this summer. Using sunscreen can help
prevent that — just like following these
tips can help you avoid getting burned by
your electric bill.

Exploring Foods From Around the World
Indian Food: Indian food uses some of the richest spices
out there, but that doesn’t mean you can’t introduce it to
your kids. In fact, “Supermeals,” by Zainab Jarto Ahmed, is an
e-book on Amazon that offers practical advice on introducing
your baby to Indian spices, as well as more than 60 kid
friendly recipes.
Canadian Food: This one’s a cinch. Your kids will
love this mixture of French fries, cheese curds, and gravy.
The origins of poutine however, is not as easy to pin down.
A restaurant in Drummondville, Quebec, called Le Roy Jucep
claims to have created poutine and owns the Canadian
Intellectual Property Office trademark for it. But just because
they own the trademark doesn’t mean the idea originated
there. The most widespread claim for inventing poutine comes
from the restaurant Le Lutin Que Rit in Warwick Quebec. As the
story goes, in 1957 a customer asked for a mix of cheese and
French fries in a bag. The owner looked in the bag and called it
“poutine” — slang for mess.
French Food: It’s no secret that the French love their
food. Many of the cooking basics taught in culinary school can
be attributed to the French, including the five mother sauces.
If you have older kids, teaching them how to make a simple
roux, which is one of the five mother sauces, is a great way to
introduce them to cooking and French cuisine at the same time.
A roux is a thickening agent, created from a 50-50 ratio of fat and
flour, heated on the
stove. It’s easy to make
and a great base for
plenty of recipes.
Japanese Food:
The Japanese are the
masters of making
food fun. One way to
introduce your kids to
Japanese cuisine is to
look up some cute bento
box ideas and have
them help you put them
together. Parenting
websites often list easy
do-it-yourself bento
lunch boxes that the
kids will enjoy.
kids tell the difference? Stars will twinkle in the sky, while planets
shine with a steady glow. Keep an eye out for Venus, Jupiter,
Mercury, and Saturn — all coming into view throughout the month.
MAKE A WISH. Shooting stars are another example of the
night being full of surprise. While they are sure to make any
stargazing experience magical, kids might be surprised to know
that falling stars aren’t really stars at all. They’re meteoroids, bits
of rock or debris that catch fire entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
Meteor showers occur when the Earth passes through a trail of
debris left by a comet. Stargazing on the night of a big meteor
shower is always an exciting event. The famous Perseids meteor
shower starts July 17 and runs through August 24.
AN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY. To watch the meteor
shower, you’ll need to find somewhere with a nice view of the
night sky — something that’s getting harder and harder to do.
This is why stargazing offers the perfect opportunity to talk to
your kids about light pollution and energy conservation. While
gazing up at the night sky, point out how you can see more stars
in some places, like mountains, than you can in others, like big
cities. Talk about how much pollution is created when lights run
for too long and why it’s important to turn the lights off when
they aren’t being used.
Depending on where you live, stargazing could be as easy as
stepping out into the backyard or heading into the woods for
an overnight trip. Wherever your family chooses to take in
the nighttime wonders, stargazing is a great summer activity
for teaching kids about the marvels of space and the grand
possibility of our galaxy.
Looking for exciting stargazing opportunities that your family
will love? Check SKYCAL, Nasa’s Sky Events Calendar at www.
eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov. Discover upcoming celestial events and
where they can be best viewed. And be sure to look up at the
night sky on July 4. While you might not see it, three special
astronauts are finishing a
five-year mission
somewhere
up there.
Glow Stick Safety. Glow sticks
are a must-have, versatile tool for any
camping trip. Keep track of your kids at
night with an eye-catching glow. If the
family dog loves camping, too, a glow stick
around the collar is perfect for keeping
track of him in the dark. Glow sticks can
also be attached to low-hanging branches,
tree stumps, tent pegs, and other obstacles
that can become dangerous after sunset.
Chemical Free Mosquito
Repellent.Toss a little sage or
rosemary in your campfire to keep
mosquitoes at bay. Adding extra garlic
or Vitamin B1 to your diet has also been
shown to repel these annoying insects.
If you do get bit, try applying a little
deodorant to the bite. It eliminates the
itching and keeps you from accidentally
scratching the bite and making it worse.
Frozen Water Jugs in the
Cooler. Forgo a cooler full of ice bags
and freeze jugs of water instead. Empty
milk jugs fit perfectly in the corners of the
cooler and will stay frozen much longer
than thin chips of ice. Even better, when
they do melt, the water is contained inside
the jugs instead of leaking all over your
supplies.
Homemade Lanterns. Scary
stories in the tent are even better when
paired with proper lighting. Attach a
headlamp, flashlight, or even a smartphone
to a translucent water bottle and create
instant ambiance that lights up the whole
tent. No heat means it’s perfectly safe for
kids. Use colored liquid for an even cooler
effect.
Single Serving Coffee Bags.
Put two tablespoons of your favorite
ground coffee into a coffee filter. Use
dental floss, upholstery thread, or baker’s
twine to tie it into a little pouch before
cutting the extra filter paper about an inch
from the knot. You can store several in a
sealed plastic bag to keep them dry and
fresh. In the morning, just drop one into a
cup of hot water and let it seep like a tea
bag for a few minutes. Carefully remove
the pouch and voila! You have fresh coffee
without the mess. This trick is also great for
busy mornings when you’re on
the go.
Fancy S’mores
When it comes to s’mores, everyone wants some more. This summer,
dazzle your friends with a s’mores buffet built around these fun and
fancy takes on a classic campfire favorite.
• 2 graham cracker squares
• 1 large marshmallow
• 1 dollop of cookie butter
Spread the cookie butter on
one cracker. Toast the mallow.
Top with second cracker

Juno’s five-year journey ends on July 4, 2016. The craft began orbiting Jupiter to learn more about the planet’s composition and formation. Juno is the second orbiter that has been sent to the biggest planet in our solar system. Fun fact: The planet Jupiter is named after the Roman god of the sky, whose wife was the goddess of family, Juno. The clever name isn’t the only thing making Juno a very special spacecraft. Through NASA’s partnership with the LEGO company, there are three unusual passengers on Juno: specially crafted LEGO Minifigures of Galileo himself and the mythological figures of Jupiter and Juno. Unlike traditional plastic minifigs, these tiny astronauts were constructed from space-grade aluminum and covered with thermal blankets to make sure they would survive the flight. “We hope that [these LEGO Minifigures] will increase [children’s awareness of] the space program and get them interested,” said principal investigator for the Juno mission, Scott Bolton. Astronomy is certainly a great way to get kids interested in science. Though we won’t be able to watch Juno reaching Jupiter here on Earth, there are countless interesting sights visible just overhead after sunset. Warm summer nights provide the perfect opportunity for some fun family stargazing. Get your kids engaged with the science and discovery of astronomy. All you need is a comfy blanket and a view of the night sky. DISCOVER CONSTELLATIONS. Start the evening by discovering the constellations. Grab a book from the library to see what constellations are visible this time of year. Make a game out of finding them among the stars. Most of these constellations have their own stories from ancient times that kids will love to hear. For added fun, suggest that your kids find and name their own constellations. Take turns making up stories about these new starry friends. FIND THE PLANETS. Keep in mind that not everything in the night sky is a star. Some of those bright stars might actually be a planet. How can Hi Everyone: I want to start off by thanking everyone who referred us cases in the last month, including divorce, custody modifications, and legitimation cases. There is no greater compliment I can think of than to refer friends and family to us. Thank you for your faith in us! As I write this month’s update, Aimee is in Wrightsville Beach North Carolina with four of our six nieces and nephews at Surf Camp. If you are looking for something fun and unique to do with your kids this summer, this should make your list of things to check out! They cater to children of all ages, which means everyone can participate. Our nephew Sean has been to Surf Camp one other time, but the other three are first timers. All are having a blast! As a beach girl, Aimee isn’t exactly suffering either! Finding new and creative things to do with your kids can be difficult, but we can help each other by sharing ideas. If you have ideas that can help others, please post them on our Facebook page or send them to me in an email so I can share them. Thanks, -Dave 770-383-1973 www.WardLawFirmGA.com Continued on page 2 ... Nothing says summer like cold ice cream, that inevitable sunburn, and the terrify- ing spike in your electric bill. As the tem- perature goes up outside, the thermostat goes down inside. Staying comfortable in your own home shouldn’t mean throwing your money on the fire. Here are a few things you can do around the house to enjoy the air conditioning and spare your wallet at the same time. Watch those Windows • Ensure your windows are completely sealed. Use caulk or weather strip- ping to eliminate any air leaks to keep cool air in and hot air out. This will also help keep your house warm come winter. • Use blinds, drapes, or other cover- ings to block your windows and keep hot sunlight out. • If the weather permits, give your thermostat a break in the evenings by opening a few windows and letting the night air keep your house cooler while you sleep. Factor in the Fans • According to Energy.gov, when the ceiling fan is on, you can raise the thermostat by 4 degrees without sacrificing comfort. • Remember the fans in your bath- room, too. Switching those on after a hot shower removes the heat and humidity before it can escape into the rest of your house. Attend to Your Appliances • Keep unnecessary lights turned off. Energy.gov estimates only 10 to 15 percent of electricity consumed by incandescent lightbulbs becomes light. The rest is converted into heat. • Avoid using the oven on hot days. Stick with the stove top, microwave, or outdoor grill to keep from adding more heat to your house. • Use the cold water setting on your washing machine when cleaning your clothes and line dry them if possible. The Consumer Energy Cen- ter calculates doing so can cut your energy bill by 4 percent. Someone is bound to get sun burned this summer. Using sunscreen can help prevent that — just like following these tips can help you avoid getting burned by your electric bill. • 2. Break 2 • www.WardLawFirmGA.com “We Protect Business Owners Facing Divorce” Call Now! 770-383-1973 • 3 Exploring Foods From Around the World Indian Food: Indian food uses some of the richest spices out there, but that doesn’t mean you can’t introduce it to your kids. In fact, “Supermeals,” by Zainab Jarto Ahmed, is an e-book on Amazon that offers practical advice on introducing your baby to Indian spices, as well as more than 60 kid friendly recipes. Canadian Food: This one’s a cinch. Your kids will love this mixture of French fries, cheese curds, and gravy. The origins of poutine however, is not as easy to pin down. A restaurant in Drummondville, Quebec, called Le Roy Jucep claims to have created poutine and owns the Canadian Intellectual Property Office trademark for it. But just because they own the trademark doesn’t mean the idea originated there. The most widespread claim for inventing poutine comes from the restaurant Le Lutin Que Rit in Warwick Quebec. As the story goes, in 1957 a customer asked for a mix of cheese and French fries in a bag. The owner looked in the bag and called it “poutine” — slang for mess. French Food: It’s no secret that the French love their food. Many of the cooking basics taught in culinary school can be attributed to the French, including the five mother sauces. If you have older kids, teaching them how to make a simple roux, which is one of the five mother sauces, is a great way to introduce them to cooking and French cuisine at the same time. A roux is a thickening agent, created from a 50-50 ratio of fat and flour, heated on the stove. It’s easy to make and a great base for plenty of recipes. Japanese Food: The Japanese are the masters of making food fun. One way to introduce your kids to Japanese cuisine is to look up some cute bento box ideas and have them help you put them together. Parenting websites often list easy do-it-yourself bento lunch boxes that the kids will enjoy. kids tell the difference? Stars will twinkle in the sky, while planets shine with a steady glow. Keep an eye out for Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, and Saturn — all coming into view throughout the month. MAKE A WISH. Shooting stars are another example of the night being full of surprise. While they are sure to make any stargazing experience magical, kids might be surprised to know that falling stars aren’t really stars at all. They’re meteoroids, bits of rock or debris that catch fire entering the Earth’s atmosphere. Meteor showers occur when the Earth passes through a trail of debris left by a comet. Stargazing on the night of a big meteor shower is always an exciting event. The famous Perseids meteor shower starts July 17 and runs through August 24. AN EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY. To watch the meteor shower, you’ll need to find somewhere with a nice view of the night sky — something that’s getting harder and harder to do. This is why stargazing offers the perfect opportunity to talk to your kids about light pollution and energy conservation. While gazing up at the night sky, point out how you can see more stars in some places, like mountains, than you can in others, like big cities. Talk about how much pollution is created when lights run for too long and why it’s important to turn the lights off when they aren’t being used. Depending on where you live, stargazing could be as easy as stepping out into the backyard or heading into the woods for an overnight trip. Wherever your family chooses to take in the nighttime wonders, stargazing is a great summer activity for teaching kids about the marvels of space and the grand possibility of our galaxy. Looking for exciting stargazing opportunities that your family will love? Check SKYCAL, Nasa’s Sky Events Calendar at www. eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov. Discover upcoming celestial events and where they can be best viewed. And be sure to look up at the night sky on July 4. While you might not see it, three special astronauts are finishing a five-year mission somewhere up there. Glow Stick Safety. Glow sticks are a must-have, versatile tool for any camping trip. Keep track of your kids at night with an eye-catching glow. If the family dog loves camping, too, a glow stick around the collar is perfect for keeping track of him in the dark. Glow sticks can also be attached to low-hanging branches, tree stumps, tent pegs, and other obstacles that can become dangerous after sunset. Chemical Free Mosquito Repellent.Toss a little sage or rosemary in your campfire to keep mosquitoes at bay. Adding extra garlic or Vitamin B1 to your diet has also been shown to repel these annoying insects. If you do get bit, try applying a little deodorant to the bite. It eliminates the itching and keeps you from accidentally scratching the bite and making it worse. Frozen Water Jugs in the Cooler. Forgo a cooler full of ice bags and freeze jugs of water instead. Empty milk jugs fit perfectly in the corners of the cooler and will stay frozen much longer than thin chips of ice. Even better, when they do melt, the water is contained inside the jugs instead of leaking all over your supplies. Homemade Lanterns. Scary stories in the tent are even better when paired with proper lighting. Attach a headlamp, flashlight, or even a smartphone to a translucent water bottle and create instant ambiance that lights up the whole tent. No heat means it’s perfectly safe for kids. Use colored liquid for an even cooler effect. Single Serving Coffee Bags. Put two tablespoons of your favorite ground coffee into a coffee filter. Use dental floss, upholstery thread, or baker’s twine to tie it into a little pouch before cutting the extra filter paper about an inch from the knot. You can store several in a sealed plastic bag to keep them dry and fresh. In the morning, just drop one into a cup of hot water and let it seep like a tea bag for a few minutes. Carefully remove the pouch and voila! You have fresh coffee without the mess. This trick is also great for busy mornings when you’re on the go. Fancy S’mores When it comes to s’mores, everyone wants some more. This summer, dazzle your friends with a s’mores buffet built around these fun and fancy takes on a classic campfire favorite. • 2 graham cracker squares • 1 large marshmallow • 1 dollop of cookie butter Spread the cookie butter on one cracker. Toast the mallow. Top with second cracker and enjoy! • 2 graham cracker squares • 1 large marshmallow • Your favorite caramel sauce • Flaky sea salt* Place the roasted marshmallow on the cracker.
