Dear Ms. Costa,
Duquesne University is ranked as one of the nation’s top tier universities with best value, considering cost and academic
quality, by U.S. News & World Report. Alumni such as you serve as the best evidence for our success in producing well-
rounded professionals. Duquesne University is proud of its tight-knit community of alumni, students, and staff and it is
partly because of this connectivity that graduates of Duquesne are so successful.
I am writing to you today in hopes that you will lend us your support in funding a scholarship honoring the beloved
Professor Janice Shandy as she begins retirement. This scholarship will help students who may other wise be unable to
attend Duquesne. Professor Shandy is honored to have her name attached to such a wonderful part of Duquesne’s
admission process. However, we cannot do this with out you!
Reward yourself as well as others by giving back to the university that helped get to you where you are today. Even a
small donation would help fulfill the dreams of young prospective Duquesne students. To ensure that your hard earned
money is used in the best way possible, an extensive selection process will be used to determine the most worthy
recipient of the award. This scholarship will be based on need as well as merit. Donating to Duquesne is an easy way
to accomplish goals for annual charity work.
Thank you for taking the time, out of what I’m sure is a busy day, to listen to my message. And thank you in advance
for your generosity. I look forward to hearing back from you and receiving any donation that you may be able to give at
this time for bettering the future of Duquesne University.
Best Regards,
KathleenMcGuire
